Pilot ships its own firmware updater. Connect over USB, click Update, and Pilot walks the device through backup, flash, and verify. No VS2. No USB stick. No driver download. The latest firmware is fetched, hashed, and uploaded by the same app you use to edit presets. Both upgrade and downgrade are supported; both have been verified end-to-end on real hardware.

Pilot's UTIL tab gathers every back-of-house tool. Transfer: full device backup (.vl3xbak), per-preset export, global-settings restore. Organize: Copy Wizard for mix-and-match effects across presets, Move Presets for drag-and-drop reordering, Selective Restore. The Pilot's SysEx generator lets you pick any parameter, set a value, and copy the exact SysEx command to paste into your setlist software or external MIDI controller. Build song-specific MIDI messages that turn effects on/off, set harmony keys, adjust levels, switch reverb types. Anything the VL3/3X can do, you can trigger from your tablet or MIDI rig.

Back up all initialized presets to a single file. Save the entire device (presets + global settings) to a JSON backup. Restore after a factory reset or transfer your setup to another VL3/x. Validate and repair corrupt preset files.
